Solar Subsidy

Launched by the Government of India in 2024, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a nationwide rooftop solar initiative aimed at promoting clean energy adoption among Indian households. The scheme enables residential consumers to install solar panels on their rooftops and receive up to 300 units of free electricity per month, significantly reducing electricity bills and dependence on the grid.

Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, homeowners get subsidies of ₹30,000/kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000/kW for the next 1 kW (up to ₹78,000 total), plus access to low-interest loans around 7% for systems up to 3 kW. A 3 kW solar plant can save up to ₹15,000 annually on electricity bills translating to ₹1,800–₹1,875 a month—and even after factoring in a loan EMI (e.g., around ₹610/month), net savings remain about ₹1,265 per month.
